Defined whale
Kollaboration: Nevercrew
This work is a collaboration I created with Nevercrew (Christian Rebecchi & Pablo Togni), in which I intervened in their whale sculpture through painting. The focus is on the whale as a marine mammal deeply intertwined with humanity's past and present—as part of a balance once defined by global hunting and trade, and now further eroded by human habits and human-induced environmental changes. The intervention aims to connect actions and their consequences that arise from a lack of empathy (and therefore irresponsibility) for the planet that shelters us. The coral reef-inspired pattern directly links to the real color changes that corals undergo as a result of climate change before they ultimately bleach. In this way, the small plastic bag is placed in relation to a global symbol of ecological suffering. Like litmus paper, it makes visible the true scale of every small gesture and serves as a reminder that all these gestures—like every single human being—are part of a larger balance.
