Linus von Moos is a Swiss artist born in 1986, also known under the pseudonym Rips1. The foundation of his work lies in the connection between place, space, and subject matter. As an artist from Central Switzerland, his work is strongly influenced by themes such as nature, landscapes, plants, animals, and sporting activities. Figurative motifs play a significant role in his works, as they embody stories and situations from his surroundings.
His paintings are characterized by elements of humor, exaggeration, and childlike playfulness. His artistic path focuses on disciplines such as large-scale architectural painting, canvas painting, digital photography, and computer graphics.
As a self-taught artist, von Moos was strongly influenced by street art and graffiti. His early works are known for their dark hatching and bold brushstrokes that dominate the composition as contours. Even at a young age, he was fascinated by the dynamism of graffiti drawings – a fascination that resonates in his work to this day. His artistic approach is characterized by a desire to capture the beauty and transience of the moment. This is evident in both his technique and his choice of tools: old, worn brushes and paint rollers, which create precise yet vibrant lines and lend his works a special depth.
Photography frequently serves as a source of study and inspiration for his murals. Through it, he attempts to capture the fleeting beauty of a moment, often enhanced by a striking play of light and shadow and an unmistakable subtlety of color. He transfers these photographs into his paintings, thus distilling memories that might otherwise be forgotten.
The theme of "nature" in his work goes beyond mere representation and conveys a profound message about the fragility of the moment. His paintings often evoke fleeting moments that seem to merge with their surroundings, while their bold lines maintain a timeless presence.
This unique combination of natural motifs, clean lines, and expressive brushstrokes makes his works an authentic reflection of his personal journey. They capture moments that arise from the interplay between man and nature, offering each viewer an individual story.
